Cannabinoids: The Science Behind Medical Cannabis

Science Sunday… …Part four: Cannabinoid science and the best known compounds in the cannabinoid family…

Wrapping up today’s overview, here’s an in-depth feature article bringing much of what’s known about cannabinoids, the ECS and more together – and which also adds links to separate articles on a fair number of the best known compounds. Covered cannabinoids include not only “the big two”:

*Cannabidiol (CBD)
*Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

But also these others:

*Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid (THCA) {unheated THC}
*Cannabidiolic Acid (CBDA) {unheated CBD}
*Cannabidivarin (CBDV) {promising in epilepsy treatment}
*Cannabigerol (CBG) {anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, etc.}
*Cannabinol (CBN) {“the ‘couchlock’ cannabinoid”}
*Cannabichromene (CBC) {anti-viral, likely analgesic, etc.}
*Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) {various weak effects known}

Bonus observation: In light of this series, we want to note that “grey market” unregulated “CBD Hemp Oil” products currently available for sale have only isolated CBD molecules and no other cannabinoids in their non-existent entourage. To make up for this, some makers add a proprietary variety of terpenes (and other chemicals) from non-cannabis sources to (they claim) modulate the product’s CBD in a way presumably somewhat like full flower cannabis does.

So, you may ask, are they able to successfully do this?

And since these “blends” are totally unregulated, un-inspected and never researched to our knowledge, the answer is, “your guess is as good as ours… …and possibly yes in some cases and sadly likely definitely not in others, but we definitely wouldn’t count on it.”

Remember our motto is “safe, legal, and affordable access to medical cannabis for all who can benefit from it,” and it’s no accident that the first word is “safe.” TRUCE stands for monitored, inspected, known to be safe medicinal cannabis products and only those.

So we urge you all to err on the side of caution when it comes to dealing with multiple unknowns.

Be safe out there. We care.

Meanwhile, happy reading and a good Sunday to you… …knowledge is power.
