Huntsman Sr. interested in trying medical marijuana for his pain

Following up on the initial report that Jon Huntsman, Sr. had spoken out favorably on the medical value of cannabis on Fox 13, more of the state’s media have published their own takes .

Mr. Huntsman has not added many further specifics since our first post on that story, but below are links to (and brief excerpts from) the stories in the Deseret News, KSL, and Salt Lake Tribune

Deseret News: “The billionaire philanthropist has beaten cancer four times and has battled a painful inflammatory disorder called polymyalgia rheumatica for the past 10 years.

Huntsman is open to personally using cannabis in order to combat the associated pain. In a statement, he criticized the stigma surrounding the drug.

‘If medical marijuana was known by another name,’ Huntsman said, ‘it would have been utilized as a pain medication many years ago. From national research and understanding, the side effects of medical marijuana are considerably less than virtually all opioids and therefore less destructive to the body’.”

KSL’s report is virtually identical, other than having its own public comment forum.

Given his prominence, we at TRUCE have been deeply moved on behalf of all of Utah’s patients to hear Mr. Huntsman declare his enthusiastic support for medical cannabis, as we believe his statement will carry weight with many who may be currently undecided.

He also reflected the sentiments of many in the patient community by noting that while he hasn’t done so yet, as a chronic pain patient who has suffered greatly for years, that he would “love to” try it.

TRUCE is also grateful that the day is now coming when all Utahns will get the opportunity to give all qualifying patients exactly that “right to try.”

TRUCE is always supportive of our readers’ participation in the media’s forums, especially knowing you are better informed than the average state resident on this topic, so we welcome seeing your voices added to the public dialog: Let YOUR voices be heard as well.

Anyone who takes the time to become involved in this debate is automatically more “prominent” than those who remain on the sidelines…..
