#Decide…..

The (not so very) little lawsuit that could continues to somehow chug along, climbing each new hill on its intended destination at the peak despite the odds. Most of we advocates, volunteers, and many other people involved in the whole emerging legal cannabis system are people of good will even as the pool of folks grows, and compromises that need to be brokered.

#Wethinkwecan

That this diverse coalition of citizens and many other actors is still vital this many years into its cause, and mostly on sweat power and shoestrings, is an achievement in and of itself.

We believe that the whole journey and ongoing saga has been an act of shared community will power as much as anything.

And there's good will going forward that's like a flywheel. The movement for rational medicinal cannabis social policy is only growing in our opinion. So each little milestone continues media awareness that the spirit of Prop 2 hasn't gone away, and is still closer to what most people in the state still much prefer to the 3001 law on the whole.

#Weknowitcan

That knowledge keeps fueling us all. The suit is about illustrating the skewed balance of power between the governed and the governors in Utah, and how the peoples' constitutional rights of seeking redress of their legitimate grievances about having their will repeatedly overrun by a legislature which keeps voting itself new powers is at stake.

Never forget that it's a sea change that medical cannabis is actually officially legal in Utah. We all did that. Against stiff odds. And (as a movement, whatever happens to various groups over years) we're not going to settle for where we are.

#Winorlose

Or lose this movement won't be forgotten in state political, medical, legal and cultural history. Yay. One more step further than most people ever thought we could. Whatever the future, we moved a ball down a tough field and scored a touchdown – and while the state threw a late penalty flag and here we are – the kernel accomplishment – legal medical cannabis in Utah – is the most important part. By far.

We've been in the David role for so long, we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if we ever found ourselves gifted with Goliath level resources… 😏

NOTE: One way the state wins many of its lawsuits is by having deep pockets which never run out of funds. This lets them keep on making distracting legal gambits which delay final court dates until most plaintiffs are financially/emotionally exhausted.

Please consider a donation to TRUCE (link at the end). The government doesn't deserve to get away with running out the clock with no verdict. If we lose in court, we lose. At this point, if we're forced to shut down our action then in our opinion it will be dirty legal pool and more reasons why Utah needs a viable actual two party (or multi-party) political system (just not this one monolithic opaque thing which hasn't had to make fair compromises in 30 years and running).

But we digress. There's no reason at all, this suit couldn't have gone before the state supreme court many moons ago already.

All sides know their positions and are relying on their case researched legal strategies. Whatever, but hey, we're way past ready for a decision that will let all Utahns know if we can get back closer to a less labyrinthine plan, a la Oklahoma.

#Votersarepeopletoo

A verdict would also be telling commentary – in whatever ways – on what's the state of ordinary voting citizens' rights in the state.

All the plaintiffs are very hopeful on our sense of the suit's merits, but also steeled for disappointment. We're playing against the house in this casino after all. And in the wings, all of the very special interests with outsize influence on too many lawmakers.

But hey, state court, the people of Utah deserve a clear, understandable decision. And whatever the verdict(s), rest assured the movement will only grow and diversify in coming years.

Never forget that it's a sea change that medical cannabis is actually officially legal in Utah. We all did that. Against stiff odds. And (as a movement, whatever happens to various groups over years) we're not going to settle for where we are.

Thanks for all your support over these accumulating years, and, hey, this (ongoing, long-term) effort could really use your (continuing) help (now more than ever).
